MgO Board Corp.. an Aussie company

The supply company to builder Trevor Chilton is MgO Board Corp Pty Ltd. An Australian company who prides itself on providing the best quality MgO product on the market. Tried, tested, and put to good use in Australia, tested and approved in Miami-Dade Florida, and soon to be making a debut building the Bean’s house here in Costa Rica!

Steve Marskell is the CEO and found of MgO Board Corp, and below you will find various snippets of communication from either Trevor the builder, or Steve, with regards the product.

Trevor email: “I thought you might find value in reviewing the most recent certifications and quality control measures awarded to MgO Board Corp.

As I have told all of you, that I am aware there is no other product that has this type of certifications in place for MgO Board from any other manufacturer on the planet.  Also take note when it comes to building material certifications Australia is extremely anal so when this passes such scrutiny under that environment it is first off a validly recognized certification in over 30 other countries and even where there is no official recognition, as would be the case in Costa Rica, it still remains as empirical evidence of world class quality.  This is further evidence that as one of the world’s leading experts in MgO Steve is way ahead of the game on the global playing field.

Also noteworthy in the certifications department one of Steve’s clients that produces SIPs in Miami used the high density MgO sheeting skinning his panels to pass the Dade County projectile test this year as well.  FYI Dade County now has the most stringent tests on the planet that you have to pass in order to sell into that market.  Any building material/system must withstand a projectile, Eg. a 2 x 4 picked up by 200 mph+ winds and being harpooned at your home during a Category 5 hurricane.  Not a particularly relevant problem for Costa Rica hence why we don’t use this super high density board but none the less interesting that this sheeting/panel can indeed meet those made in USA standards.

I have no doubt that this product is the best of the best and it only continues to get better and more diverse in the product line and uses that we can put this amazing MgO product to.  Eg. our recent revelation that it acts as an EFT (electronic frequency transmissions) shield so that any home owner can rest assured they will have the least amount of EFT’s entering their home as is possible.  See my latest post on our website for full details.  http://casasenescazu.com/853/853/

Something else worthy of mention is that lesser developed countries like Costa Rica are notorious dumping grounds for crap grade products that typically never make it into the G20 countries.  We all know this happens and many of us have no doubt experienced it in person.  To say the least it quite pisses those of us who choose to live in such countries.  Alternative to that here we play a role in bringing the best of the best to Costa Rica with zero compromises to help anyone build a better home as well as more affordable homes, something that is to say the least, desperately needed!”

Steve Marskell email: “

Where other sheathing product such as Gypsum and Fibre cement have very little and in most cases no structural supporting strength when applied to your building frame, our MgO Corp Board products have substantially higher structural strength in both tensile and rigidity and our products performances are not affected by the influences of moisture, heat or water which then delivers when placed a complete building system such as SIP’s is very stable and very strong against all elements.

We have proven this in tests here at the University of Southern Queensland, University of Technology, in our own Testing Facilities in Redcliffe (where we have tested for Earth Quake housing to go into PNG and Christchurch NZ) as well as testing has been carried out on the SIP’s using our MgO Corp Board High Strength Wall Boards as the Internal and External Skins at the University Venezuela and recent DADE County Testing.

I am sure that Trevor’s team will have the engineering for the dwellings well established to meet and exceed the earthquake building requirements for the region.

In regards to the complexities of the makeup of our MgO Corp Board, other than testing performances that will be handled by Trevor – we as in MgO Corp do not go into explaining our IP solutions that allow us to get the high results we achieve.

I would assume that Trevor will specify for all your external walls and roofing panels the use of High Strength High Impact Board and for all your internal walls the use of High Moisture Resistant Internal Wall board.”

Have you looked at http://www.casasenescazu.com lately? More new info arrives on there every day it seems!!

We are excited to be one of the first to build our dream home with this product, and with the knowledge and experience of Trevor and his team. More updates to come.

Hi, Are you able to buy MgO board in Costa RIca or did you import just for yourself?

    Thanks

Hi Peter! Thanks for your patience. Back in 2014 when we built, Trevor Chilton imported it from China.. via an Aussie company called MgO Board Corp Pty Ltd. I believe they are no longer doing business under that name. If we were to build with SIPS again, I think we would just import them ourselves using one of our trusted import agents. One of the issues Trevor encountered that cost extra time and $$ was that the labeling of the panels as Magnesium oxide put up a red flag in customs… where someone assumed that because it was magnesium, it was highly unstable and flammable. Of course, Mg oxide is the opposite but it took some time and education for that hurdle to be overcome. Thanks for the question!

Thanks so much for the reply. I know the importation thing can be a headache. I heard you can get Densglass here which is gypsum board with fiberglass backing instead of paper. I don’t think it has mildewcide or anything funny so I might go with that. I don’t think I would build with paper backed sheetrock in this climate.
        Cheers,
